What is Tough Mudder?
About the events
Tough Mudder events are hardcore 10-12 mile (18-20 km) obstacle course challenges designed to test your all-around strength, stamina, mental grit and camaraderie. With the most innovative obstacles and over one million participants globally to date, Tough Mudder is the premier obstacle course series in the world.
Tough Mudder is more than an event; it’s a way of thinking. It’s about pushing yourself to the limits and helping others to do the same. It’s not a race, it’s a challenge. If we timed you, what would be your motivation to stop and give someone a hand? When you run a Tough Mudder, you’ll meet new people and overcome challenges when you get through the course—together. Running a race gets you busted knees and a medal you’ll never wear again. At the end of a Tough Mudder, you get an orange headband to proudly wear to work on Monday morning, a pint, bragging rights and membership into Mudder Nation. And it gives you an excuse to get all your friends together and start a tradition.
Tough Mudder Facts
FACT #1 - Humans need physical challenges.
Tough Mudder was created to test mental and physical grit. Our ancestors used to hunt wildebeests and swim across raging rivers. Now we pull roller bags with our index finger while staring at our smartphones and sipping coffee drinks with names so long we can’t remember them. Stop taking it easy and accept a real challenge. Find out if you and your teammates have what it takes to earn your orange headbands and join Mudder Nation.
FACT #2 – Marathon running is boring.
Running in a straight line for hours on end may give you a healthy set of lungs, but your arms will still look like Keira Knightly’s. Mudders need to be prepared for any and all obstacles, and the cross-training we recommend for Tough Mudder will get you in the best all-around shape of your life. Don't slack off - you'll regret it.
FACT #3 – You cannot complete a Tough Mudder course alone.
To get through the miles of mud, ice-water and live dangling electric wires, you’ll need teammates at your side who can give you a physical or mental boost—or just tell you to quit whining and keep running. Tough Mudders are team players, and our obstacle courses are purposefully designed to make Mudders rely on each other.
FACT #4 – Mudders do not take themselves too seriously.
Tough Mudders take their training seriously, but they don’t take themselves too seriously. With costume contests, snarky obstacle names like Arctic Enema, and your smart arse fellow Mudders, you’ll want to bring your sense of humour. When you (if you) get to the finish line, our Mudder Volunteers will ensure you get your orange headband, icy-cold pint, and a slap on the back. Check our event photo albums to get into the spirit.
As a Tough Mudder I pledge that...
I understand that Tough Mudder is not a race but a challenge.
I put teamwork and camaraderie before my course time.
I do not whine – kids whine.
I help my fellow mudders complete the course.
I overcome all fears.
Tough Mudder Values
More than a fitness challenge, Tough Mudder is a set of core values both out on the course and in everyday life. Mudders℠ pledge to put teamwork and camaraderie before their course time, help their fellow Mudders complete the course, and overcome all fears. For a Tough Mudder, life is about pushing boundaries and overcoming all obstacles through teamwork—and having fun along the way.
Here at Tough Mudder HQ, we put that same spirit into our work. We believe that material things and online social networking will never replace the value of real-life experiences with friends, family, coworkers and fellow participants. We are inspired by our Mudders and constantly challenge ourselves to make our events more awesome for them. We believe that deep down every person has the grit to become a Tough Mudder and we work to create a life-changing experience for those who accept the challenge. And for those who don’t: that’s just more beer for the rest of us.
If you’re freaked out...you must be doing it right
