Spectators

People you want to impress should get spectator tickets here: SPECTATOR TICKETS, people you didn’t even know you wanted to impress will also be getting tickets here: SPECTATOR TICKETS. Online spectator registration will close Friday, July 22nd at NOON. All online registration fees cost $15.

You can register as a spectator day-of for $40. Note: day-of purchases will be CASH ONLY.

Since Tough Mudder gives spectators almost unlimited access to the course, it’s pretty important (for legal and insurance reasons) that spectators sign a physical waiver. Luckily, we’ve made it easy for you. You can sign your waiver ahead of time by downloading it here. Please note: Children under 10 are allowed to spectate for free and do NOT need to be registered.

Spectators must bring the following with them on event day

  1. Confirmation email from RaceIt
  2. Photo ID
  3. You can also save time and sign your waiver ahead of time, download it here: WI Spectator Waiver

EVENT RELATED FACILITIES

  • Questions: The Info Desk is located at the entrance. Here, our very own Antonia will answer all your questions, but please don’t overwhelm her with pleas to change start times.
  • Get Cash: There will be ATMs located at the entrance, in the hotel and in the post party area, but we recommend you bring cash to avoid lines.
  • Bag Drop: There will be a Bag Drop facility located on site. We recommend participants bring their own bag.
  • Feed Yourself: Food and beverages will be on sale throughout the day of the event. You can find these at the concessions area inside the Party Zone and barbecues and grills outside near the finish area. Vegetarian food will also be available.
  • Take a Ride: The Ski Lift will be running and you will be able to avoid a hike by taking it to the top for only $5- CASH ONLY!
  • Relieve Yourself: Portable toilets for participants and spectators are located throughout the property. There will also be a limited amount of indoor toilets.
  • Lost & Found: If you find anything, please, be a model citizen and turn it in at the Bag Drop. If you lose something check at the Bag Drop. TMHQ takes all unclaimed items at the end of the day, so if the Info Desk doesn’t have it, you should send us an email (info@toughmudder.com). We don’t recommend that you try stopping by, we’re like the CIA – you won’t be able to find us. Anything that sits in TMHQ for over 30 days goes straight to the Salvation Army. If you have lost an item you must contact Tough Mudder. No prank phone calls please.

Registration

Registration opens on Saturday at 7:00 am and Sunday at 7:00 am. You should allow about 2 hours for parking and registering.

There will be NO day of sign ups on Saturday, don’t ask!

Participant registration is a three step process. Follow these simple rules and you will fly through; ignore these rules and you will be walking around like a goat with a bag on its head.

Step 1: Sign your Death Waiver. Pick up a waiver and sign it. There will be a table dedicated to waivers when you walk in. GO HERE FIRST.

You can save time by downloading, printing, and signing your waiver ahead of time by clicking HERE.

Step 2: Packet Pick Up. After you have your signed waiver in hand proceed to packet pick up. There will be lines organized alphabetically by last name. Please don’t forget your last name. Here you will get:

  • Your very own participant pack with your name on it! This will contain: 4 safety pins, 1 bib and two colored, numbered wristband to say that you are part of the event. You can pin the bib on wherever you want, we won’t judge.

  • One wristband will go on your wrist obviously, but the other wristband will go on your bag. After you are done with registration walk your bag over to bag drop.

  • If you are 21 or over, you will also receive a Dos Equis XX wristband so that you can claim your beer.

Step 3: Face-marking: We write your bib number on your forehead and extremity of choice in permanent marker. Fairly self-explanatory, right? You MUST complete this step to participate. This is how we identify you for pictures and, Mudder forbid, in case of serious injury.

All participants must bring a valid photo I.D. to registration and will be required to sign a liability waiver (read Death Waiver). If you do not sign the waiver, you cannot start the event. To save time on event day print off and sign the waiver HERE, and bring it with you to registration. If you do this, you can skip step 1 above.

Start Times:
Groups of 500 start every 20 minutes beginning at 9:00AM on Saturday and groups of 300 every 20 minutes on Sunday. You can find your start time by clicking here: START TIMES, on the Tough Mudder website and also on the front of your registration packet.

Wherever possible, participants have been assigned to the closest available start time that they requested when registering for the event. However, due to demand, participants may find that they are not in the Start Group time they had requested. Please do not contact us requesting a time change.

**There WILL be a costume contest at 9:30 AM each day.
The winner WILL win a season pass. Plan your outfits and start times accordingly.**

Military Discounts:
If you received a military discount when you registered, you MUST have your military ID with you on event day or this discount cannot be honored.

Wounded Warrior Project
If you registered through ACTIVE.com and pledged to raise $150 for the Wounded Warrior Project when you signed up online, you must have matched, or, better yet, exceeded, this amount on Raceit.com by midnight of Sunday, May 1, 2011. We will have records of participants who have not managed to reach this threshold and will require such persons to pay an additional $50 in order to start the event. Volunteers will be collecting donations on-site at the Bag Check and the Info Desk.

Course Info

Details of the terrain and obstacles throughout the course are located here

Note: due to weather conditions, local burn bans, and other restrictions, it is possible that the course may change and that some obstacles may be altered or removed completely.

Course Safety Warning:

The course is designed to be very difficult and the terrain is at times muddy, slippery, and potentially dangerous. You will be wet after the first mile, and you MUST be able to swim more than fifty yards if you attempt the Walk the Plank obstacle. If you do not feel comfortable completing any obstacle, DO NOT attempt it; simply continue on to the next obstacle. But really, what do you think you signed up for, Warrior Dash?

Electroshock Therapy does conduct a shock of 10,000 volts:

Please be advised that this obstacle is dangerous if you have certain health conditions, epilepsy, or a pacemaker.

Wild Parsnip Please watch for and AVOID the Wild Parsnip plant:

It has ONLY been spotted in the parking area but it is not a plant you want to meet. Wild parsnip can cause phytophotodermatitis, which is a fancy word that means you will get a terrible rash and/or blistering if your skin comes in contact with the plant’s juices. Skin discoloration can also occur. Although we like our events to be tough, we like to be the one’s making them that way. We would be terribly upset if what you take away from the event is a blistered discolored leg instead of a broken arm or twisted ankle.

There will be drinking water and bananas at four different locations throughout the course and another at the finish. Participants are encouraged to supplement this with personal hydration systems as well.

Heat sheets will be available throughout the course and at the Finish Area. Shiny side goes on the inside. We can’t tell you how many people put these things on the wrong way.

Equipment & Clothing

What to Wear:

  • Normal running shoes. We DO NOT recommend you buying a brand spanking new pair of kicks for this event; shoes get muddy, because you are running through mud. Your sweet new Nikes will end up here:
  • Gloves
  • Hat
  • Warm/dry clothing to change into after the race.
  • Hydration system – FILLED WITH WATER, not cerveza. Note: Again, there will be water stations.
  • Costumes and anything creative. We have yet to see anything more impressive than the Avatards, but we keep wishing and hoping and dreaming that this day will come.

What NOT to wear:

  • You CANNOT wear spikes or cleats during the event. There will be an inspection at the Start Area—and when we catch you, trust us, we’ll make it embarrassing that you tried to defy the mighty Mudder.

Shameless Self Promotion:

Tough Mudder branded performance apparel brought to you exclusively by Team Retail Solutions. You can purchase all items here. TRS will also have a large selection of items on sale outside in a retail tent near the Finish Area. Cash and credit cards will be accepted.

Post-Party & Awards

The Post-Party is a key component of the Tough Mudder experience. Bands and DJs will be playing live music throughout the afternoon. It is kind of like Dick Clark’s Rocking New Year’s Eve. But it’s not a new year, and it’s not nighttime, and there is no Dick Clark. Kick back and celebrate what will probably be the greatest accomplishment of your life. Unless you make it to World’s Toughest Mudder, that is.

Carnival of Tough:

Get pumped before and after you hit the course with our Celebrity Keg Toss. Don’t even try to talk a big game until you taken on the Bieber. Competing for a beer in the process only makes it better.

We usually encourage teamwork at all times but we’ve decided to let it go just this once: Try your hand at bringing your teammates down and cleaning them up with our dunk tank.

Timing:

If you wish to record your time to be eligible to enter the World’s Toughest Mudder, you can do so after the event through the online survey located on the Wisconsin event page of the Tough Mudder website. It is your responsibility to remember your time.

Post Post Party:

The resort is throwing a Post Post Party at the Devil’s Den from 8:00pm – 12:00am FRIDAY and SATURDAY nights! This event will feature Ordinary Outcast, click HERE to check them out!

Tough Mudder Respect Awards:

Special awards are given to participants who have completed the race after overcoming serious illness, injury or misfortune. If you feel that one of your Team Members deserves recognition, please email info@toughmudder.com.

Tough Mullet & Mohawks:

Free head-shaves will be available on-site. Participants are encouraged to get a Mullet or a Mohawk. Warning: We have hired professional hair dressers, to come out and make your hair a masterpiece–be sure to take advantage. That said, we are not liable for if you look incredibly ugly.

Tough Mudder Tattoos:

Participants interested in getting a Tough Mudder tattoo can do so on site in the post party area, provided by Steve’s Tatoo. They will be available for $70. Send us your receipt and we’ll give you a free entry to a Tough Mudder of your choice in 2011.

Photography

When you’re on the course watch out for those guys in blue vests wielding cameras with oversized lenses. They work for Brightroom, Tough Mudder’s official event photographers. You can expect to be photographed a minimum of 14 times – more than that if you are an expert photo bomber – and Brightroom will be taking official team photos after you crawl across the finish line.

To ensure that you get to see all these amazing photos make sure you have your bib number clearly visible. This is the only way that we will be able to identify you after the event – trust us, Brightroom will be so busy taking amazing pictures that they won’t have time to keep track of names.

Photos will be available to purchase online on Brightroom’s website within 72 hours of the event. There will also be a link from our website at www.ToughMudder.com/photos.

  2. Rachel B. says:

I have the REEBOK RealFlex shoes. Are those considered spikes? I don't want to become shoe-less. :( Thought I would ask.

  3. AngeM says:

Is there a PDF download for this? Would be helpful to be able to print directions, etc…

  4. Stephanie says:

I am so flipping excited for this event I can hardly stand it, is it Sunday the 24th yet??????

  5. Bernie says:

Note to self- if I cannot find the resort, I might not want to sign a Death Waiver to participate in the event. Yeahhhh

  6. Valerie says:

I am running on Sunday, can I pick my packet up on Saturday?? Also can I pick a packet up for a friend?

  7. Brian says:

Anyone competing 7/24 and want to carpool? please message me! I

    • abe says:

Brian – I'm coming up from Chicago on Saturday (to race on Sunday) in the early afternoon. Not sure where you're at, but does that work?

      • Brian says:

Hey Abe, I'm actually racing on Sunday at 9:20 in the morning. I was planning on leaving my house (Buffalo Grove) early; around 3ish. However, please let me know if we can work something out. Thank you.

        bkim913@gmail.com

      • abe says:

I'm racing @ 9 on Sunday, but my brothers and I are headed up on Saturday, staying in hotel overnight. Sorry and good luck!

      • Kristin Vyhnal says:

Abe, I'm driving up Saturday afternoon and staying in Madison overnight. Racing at 9, staying for the afternoon party. Let me know if that works for you

      • abe says:

        thanks, but I'm all good.
        good luck!

  8. Edd says:

    Really? $5 to park?

  9. Captain Coitus says:

$15 to watch? $40 day-of? Do you have to pay to watch the finish line?

  10. NotThatDumb says:

I agree. $5 to park isn't too bad, but $15 to watch seems a little excessive— $40 to watch (day of) doesn't makes any sense what-so-ever. Maybe that works for you on the coast, but if it doesn't include an open bar, it won't fly in Wisconsin!
First I paid over $100 to enter, then I raised a couple hundred for the fund. Now I have to pay another $50 for my wife and kids to watch? Silly. If I drove 100 miles to watch my friends do this event, only to find out it would cost me $40 plus $5 to park, first I would be pissed. Then I would go find something else to do for the day.

    • Ron says:

I think that is to discourage people from just looking, cause if you pay that much, you might as well join the fun :-)

    • WISCORIDER says:

I've NEVER had to pay to watch other races. This is crap.

    • Chris says:

It's uncalled for. I've never had to pay to watch or have my wife pay to watch an event I'm doing. I have a lot more friends and family who would come and drink the beer and have a good time if they didn't have to pay to park and watch.

It's all about nickeling and diming us. If we paid to enter we should get X# of spectator tickets. Parking should be first come first serve. And if I'm staying at the resort both Friday and Saturday I better have a free parking spot!

  11. shawn k says:

try to keep in mind the cause, and the price our vets payed for this awsome country and its people.Besides, what could be more fun than the toughmudder!!!

  12. mhively says:

The heat is looking like it will be the real enemy this Saturday. I see that course has aid/water stations throughout. What is the vibe on using camelbacks? Is this going to be a popular item on Saturday? A necessary item possibly?

    • SteveThrock says:

Anyone follow up on this? I'm curious about bringing my CamelBack too…

      • ECKMAN says:

If you think you need it–bring it. But then are you REALLY a tough mudder!!

      • marines marine says:

you no good if your dead……
        tough guy

      • Brian says:

Camelbacks are nice but a pain in the A@# due to obsticles. So if you bring one plan to ditch it along the way. I plan throw away bottles. Also start your hydro today! for Sat. As for the REALLY Tough comment, well I plan to be Really Tough but not REALLY Dead so I may fight another day. Prepare smart

    • I'm bringing mine. I'm on a team, however, so we are planning on spreading the weight and sharing.

    • Mark says:

I did TM in March, and am doing this one in WI on Sat. Lots of people brought camelbacks(I did not), and some people ditched them along the course. I recommend bringing electrolyte/sodium gels instead. They're way more beneficial. You WILL cramp hard, but not nearly as bad if you use gels. Good luck!!

  13. MadGab says:

Question: I'm looking to be a spectator, (my husband going to be running). Has anyone been to a Tough Mudder in the past and can tell me what it is like to be a spectator? Do I get to see my husband throughout the race or do I just pick one obstacle to see him at? And how do I know where he is so I can be at the obstacle in time to see him…? Any insight would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

  14. Margie says:

I thought I read somewhere about a weed in the parking lot that was similar to poison ivy…..now I can't find where I read it………can someone help with the name of the weed and what it looks like?

    • anon says:

It's called Wild Parsnip. Check it out under Course Info.

    • mara says:

It was wild parsnip. A tall weed with yellow flowers (kind of looks like dill). I got into it at Dances With Dirt 2 weeks ago and have the scars and a spot between my fingers that is still sore and making my finger swollen. Stay out of it!!

  15. DoughtyUSMC says:

I'm a little confused on two things:
    1) will my spectator friends be able to carry and toss in a gatorade while watching from the sidelines?
    2) is the bag drop a locker storage or what? Do I leave my snacks here?

    • Mark says:

Lots of spectators at the TM I did in March brought drinks/snacks for people they were there to see, so yes. The bag drop is under a tent. Bring a change of clothes and food if you need it. There are some snacks provided post-race.

  16. TFMDR says:

You can also go to linked in and join the toughmudder alumni group. Facebook also has a toughmudder group. They are very helpful and get more traffic than this forum. You'll probably have more of your questions answered pretty quickly there.

  17. Monica says:

Can a spectator bring a dog on a leash?

  18. Lisa says:

What has been arranged for medical facilities?

  19. Dave says:

Are there usually a lot of day-of-race tickets for sale

  20. Elise says:

My parents were prepared to pay $15 when they arrived, but at $40 forget it. That, and my friend signed up but was denied a spot because of an error in the TM website. So far, not impressed by the customer support, Tough Mudder….

  21. Brian says:

Is anyone else not receiving the confirmation email for the spectators tickets from raceit?

    • Marianne says:

I did not get mine either; I have
a confirmation number, but can't figure out how to access in order to print. Help?

  22. lucas says:

Hey, if anyone was taking pictures at end (Electroshock Therapy) of the WI mudder today, I'd love to know if you got pictures of me going through. I'm the one who ripped my shirt off, held my arms out wide and marched through hitting all the wires. Our friends couldn't get to the obstacle quick enough to take pictures. Please let me know if you've got em, thelaw2000@juno.com.
