A Non-stop 24-Hour Tough Mudder designed to find the TOUGHEST human being on the planet
World’s Toughest Mudder is the culminating event of the 2011 Tough Mudder Event Series, and will be a two-day challenge with one goal: to find the toughest man or woman on the planet. When the mud settles on December 18, one person will have bested over 150,000 Mudders for the right to call him or herself the World’s Toughest Mudder!
Here’s how it’s going down: WTM competitors will have 24 hours to complete as many laps of the course as they can. At the 24 hour mark, all competitors must complete the lap they are on. The event’s winner will be whichever participant has completed the greatest total number of laps in the allotted 24 hours. The winner must still be on the course at 24 hours (not stopped or disqualified). In the event that multiple participants complete the Winner’s Total, the winner will be whichever participant crossed the finish line of their final lap first.
This event is a competition, with the winner being crowned World’s Toughest Mudder and receiving a cash prize of US$10,000. Participants will be required to wear timing chips and will be subject to the event’s official rules. That said, participants are strongly encouraged to help each other make it through the course as with any Tough Mudder event.
CAUTION: Of those that begin the event, only 10% are expected to finish. Only those in extreme PHYSICAL and MENTAL condition should even think about attempting to enter.

Course and Event Format
TMHQ is hard at work designing the obstacle course to end all obstacle courses. Competitors will run laps of a 10-mile course featuring 30 of the world’s toughest obstacles. The winner will be the mudder that completes the greatest number of laps over a grueling 24-hour period.
While WTM obstacles will remain a mystery until event weekend, it’s safe to assume that obstacles at previous Tough Mudder events will only scratch the surface of the trials WTM competitors will be subjected to. To get a sense, look at the course map for the 2011 Tri-State event, then imagine it ‘roided up. For training purposes, qualifiers should expect the event to require cardiovascular stamina, brute strength, agility, dexterity, mental grit, and most of all a passion to prove oneself to be the Toughest Mudder on this good green earth.
The event will feature a pit area where each competitor may set up a tent in order to sleep, eat, and warm up as they deem necessary. This pit area is for the competitor only; no spectators are allowed in the pit area. Spectators will have a separate section from which they can enjoy the event.
WHY THIS EVENT FORMAT?
“Laps” vs. “Out-and-back” – We thought about doing an A to B style course with over 100 miles in the Rockies but then realized this would make us just like every other boring ‘adventure’ race. The obstacles you’ll see at World’s Toughest Mudder will be significantly harder than a regular Tough Mudder and because they’re going to be so bad-ass we wanted to make sure our participants got more than one chance to get their asses kicked by them. Finally, an obstacle that was easy during lap one might be impossible for someone by lap three. It should be great to watch.
“Spectator-friendly” vs. “out there alone” – Speaking of watching, the Event Format allows spectators such as friends and family as well as the media to experience the event alongside the participants. Those participating will feel like they are in a stadium with cheering fans, rather than trekking in the wilderness. It also allows us to know where the top racers are in relation to one another and watch an exciting finish go down.
“Safety reasons” – An event of this toughness has never been done before. We need to be able to monitor all event participants at all times. This is not a trail run where you may sprain your ankle and have to limp home. This is jumping into freezing cold water, running through flames, and getting electric shocks time and time again. Let’s be clear: 90% of you won’t be finishing. We owe it to your families not to hold this thing in the middle of the Rockies where rescue would be impossible. You might not care about seeing your 40th birthday, but someone else does.
CAUTION, AGAIN: Of those that begin the event, only 10% are expected to finish. Only those in extreme PHYSICAL and MENTAL condition should even think about attempting to enter.
