World’s Toughest Mudder: Participant Information Pack

YOU ARE REQUIRED TO READ THESE DIRECTIONS BEFORE YOU ARRIVE AT RACEWAY PARK.

World’s Toughest Mudder

World’s Toughest Mudder is the culminating event for the year-long Tough Mudder series. In the same way a Tough Mudder event tests competitors’ strength, stamina, and mental and physical endurance over a 10-12 mile course, World’s Toughest Mudder will do over 100 miles and two days. When all is said and done, one man and woman will stand alone as the World’s Toughest Mudder, $10,000 richer, having bested 1000 competitors that day, and 140,000 over the course of the year.

You should allow about 2 hours for parking, registration, and pit area set up.Please remember that registration will be open Friday, December 16th from 10 AM – 8 PM. During this time you can complete the registration process as well as set up your pit area. Completing Registration and Pit Area set up on Friday is HIGHLY ENCOURAGED!

All participants must bring a government issued photo I.D. to registration. You will NOT be allowed in without one.

No exceptions

Start Times: All Participants will begin in the same start wave at 10:00 AM on Saturday, December 17th.

Participant registration is a four step process. Follow these simple rules and you will fly through; ignore these rules and you will be walking around like a goat with a bag on its head.

STEP 1: Sign your Death WAIVER and fill out a medical form ! Upon arrival to the Registration area, you will find the Waiver tent. GO HERE FIRST.

  • If you do not sign this waiver, you cannot start the event. To save time on event day, print off and sign the Participant Waiver and Medical Form, and bring them with you to registration. If you do this, you can skip step 1 above.
  • You will also receive a sheet outlining the course rules, please be sure you fully understand the course rules and direct any questions to the Info/Media desk.

STEP 2: Pick Up Your Packet. After you have your signed waiver and filled out medical form in hand, proceed to packet pick up. There will be lines organized alphabetically by last name. Please don’t forget your last name. Here you will receive the following:

  • Your very own participant pack with your name on it! This will contain: 1 bib and 1 green wristband. The GREEN wristband allows you to participate in the event. You will not be allowed to begin the event if you are not wearing your green wristband.
  • If you are 21 or over, you will also receive an ORANGE Dos XX wristband so that you can claim your free beer!

STEP 3: We write on your forehead in permanent marker. Fairly self-explanatory, right? You must have your bib number on your forehead and either your arm or leg (and anywhere else you want to tag yourself). This is how we identify you for pictures and, Mudder forbid, in case of serious injury.

STEP 4: Pick up your timing chip. This can only be done on Saturday. Participants who completed registraion on Friday can proceed straight to CHIP PICK UP on Satruday morning and must present their BIB and ID to pick up their chip.

  • Timing chips will be distributed Saturday Morning between 7:00 AM and 8:30 AM.
  • Your chip should be attached around your ankle only. Zip ties will be provided for extra security.
  • Timing chips will track participant’s laps and time as well as lap averages.
  • At the beginning of every lap each participant will go through a “check point” to ensure your chip records each lap
  • Please inform a Tough Mudder official IMMEDIATELY if your timing chip goes missing.
  • Your timing chip must be returned when you finish, are disqualified or remove yourself from the event. IF YOUR TIMING CHIP IS NOT RETURNED YOU WILL BE CHARGED $50.
  • Chips will be collected at the finish line, hospitality tent, in all medical tents and at the entrance to the pit area.

World’s Toughest Rules

  1. WTM participants (you) will have 24 hours to complete as many laps of the course as you can. At the 24 hour mark, all competitors must complete the lap they are on. The Event Winner will be whichever participant has completed the greatest total number of laps “Winners Total” in the allotted 24 hours. The winner must still be on the course at 24 hours (not dropped out or disqualified). In the event that multiple participants complete the Winner’s Total, the winner will be whichever participant crosses the finish line of their final lap first. Being in the Pit Area is equivalent to beginning a new lap. If you are in the pit area you will be required to finish an entire lap.
  2. No participants will be allowed to start a new lap after 1:00 pm on Sunday.
  3. Once the winner has been determined, the Winner’s Total will immediately become the number of laps required to finish the event. All remaining competitors will then be allotted an additional four (4) hours in which to match the winners number of complete laps. Only those that match the Winner’s Total (using any or all of the additional 4 hours) will be considered “finishers” of the event. No additional consideration will be given for competitors who exceed the Winner’s Total using any or all of the additional four (4) hours.
  4. If no one wins, that is, if no one makes it through 24 hours of WTM, the prize money will be donated to Wounded Warrior Project.
  5. Only registered participants may participate in the event or attempt any obstacle. Participants CANNOT be joined by any friends or family along the course (this includes the pit area), whether for assistance or companionship. Any participant in violation of this will be disqualified.
  6. Participants CANNOT intentionally hinder the progress of any other participant for any reason. Doing so is grounds for immediate disqualification.
  7. Participants must complete each lap and every obstacle of the course in its entirety. Skipping any obstacles or timing mats throughout the event will result in disqualification. If a participant is unable to complete an obstacle that has been predetermined a “penalty obstacle”, he or she must endure a five minute time penalty before continuing the lap. If the obstacle IS NOT designated a “penalty obstacle” and the participant is unable to complete it, the participant will be disqualified.
  8. Participants CANNOT receive outside assistance, except from other participants or from designated race staff. Such assistance includes physical help along the course, receipt of any item (food, clothing, etc.) or any other action deemed unfair by race officials.
  9. Participants must keep all personal items within their designated space in the pit area. Failing to observe this rule will result in disqualification.
  10. Participants may only enter the pit area after completing a full lap. Participants entering the pit area at any other time for any reason will be disqualified.
  11. All participants must wear timing chip and race bib at all times. Participants losing or damaging their timing chip or race number must get a new one from the scoring tent upon completion of a lap or from a TMHQ Official located on the course.
  12. Between the hours of 4:30pm on December 17 and 7:30am on December 18, all participants must wear a headlamp and a safety strobe light. Failure to do so will result in disqualification.
  13. Participants are strongly recommended to bring backups of each of these items. *If your headlamp breaks for any reason you are responsible for flagging down a Tough Mudder official and required to begin the next lap with a working headlamp.
  14. All participants must stop at the Medical check point at the Start Area to have their vitals checked following each lap before they begin their next lap. Failure to do so will result in disqualification.
  15. Race medical officials may require any participant to submit to a medical check at any time throughout the event. If the medical official determines a participant is unfit to continue competition, the participant shall be removed from the event. The medical official’s decision is final and not subject to appeal.
  16. Tough Mudder reserves the right to close any obstacle for any length of time for any reason without regard for such closure’s impact upon the event’s competitiveness.
  17. A course sweep will be performed at 2:00 PM Sunday, December 18th.
  18. Participants must be willing to submit to urine testing before, during and after the event.
  19. Any and all disputes will be settled by Tough Mudder officials, whose decisions are final.

Course Info

Course Map: Details of the terrain and obstacles throughout the course will be released Thursday, December 15th, 2011, at midnight.

Note: Due to weather conditions, local burn bans, and other restrictions, it is possible that the course may change and that some obstacles may be altered or removed completely.

Course Safety Warning: The course is designed to be very difficult and the terrain is at times muddy, slippery, and potentially dangerous. You will be wet after the first mile, and you MUST be able to swim more than fifty yards to attempt any water obstacle.

Electroshock Therapy does conduct a shock of 10,000 volts. Please be advised that this obstacle is dangerous if you have certain health conditions, epilepsy, or a pacemaker.

Aid and Water Stations: There will be aid and water stations placed every two miles on the course. They will contain options for hydration and nutritional fuel. However, you should provide your own hydration and fuel.

Event Related Facilities

  • Questions: The Info Desk is located at the entrance. Here, our very own Tough Mudder will answer all your questions.
  • Buy Stuff: There will be ATMs located at Registration and the Post Party area, but we recommend you come with a pocket full of cash.
  • Feed Yourself: Food and beverages will be on sale throughout the day of the event. You can find these at the concessions area inside the Party Zone. Vegetarian food will also be available.
  • Relieve Yourself: Portable toilets for participants and spectators are located throughout the venue.
  • Lost & Found: If you find anything that doesn’t belong to you, please, be a model citizen and turn it in at the Info/Media Desk. If you lose something (trust us, this happens a lot…we once found an engagement ring in the parking lot) check at the Info/Media Desk. TMHQ takes all unclaimed items at the end of the day, so if the Info/Media Desk doesn’t have it, you should send us an email (info@toughmudder.com). We don’t recommend that you try stopping by, we’re like the CIA – you won’t be able to find us. Anything that sits in TMHQ for over 30 days goes straight to the Salvation Army.
  • Meeting Point Sky Flag: Misplaced a loved one? Can’t find your friends? Don’t panic. Head to the Meeting Point Flag located in the base area. Use this spot as a rendezvous point to find your lost buds or to be found by them!
  • Hospitality Tent: A tent in the base area that spectators and finishers can use to meet, relax and warm up!

Tough Mudder Goodness

Tough Mudder Tattoos: There will be tattoo vouchers available at the Info/Media desk for participants interested in getting a World’s Toughest Mudder tattoo.

Photography

When you’re on the course watch out for those guys in blue vests, wielding cameras with oversized lenses. They work for Brightroom, Tough Mudder’s official event photographers. You can expect to be photographed a minimum of 14 times – more than that if you are an expert photo bomber – and Brightroom will be taking official team photos after you crawl across the finish line.

To ensure that you get to see all these amazing photos make sure you have your bib number clearly visible. This is the only way that we will be able to identify you after the event – trust us, Brightroom will be so busy taking amazing pictures that they won’t have time to keep track of names.

Photos will be available to purchase online on Brightroom’s website within 72 hours of the event. There will also be a link from our website at www.ToughMudder.com/photos.
