Tough Mudder University

At Tough Mudder, you’ll learn everything from how to construct a quarter pipe to the in-and-outs of business development, brand management and event production. Everyone at TMHQ is automatically enrolled in Tough Mudder University (TMU) which aims to replicate the Harvard Business School (HBS) education of our founder and CEO Will Dean. Not only does Will share all he has learned but also quite literally brings HBS to Tough Mudder, as the team reads at least one HBS case study and business management book each month, and sits down with Harvard professors in mock HBS classes.

Our most recent HBS case is “JetBlue Airways – Starting From Scratch” authored by Jody Hoffer Gittell and Charles O’ Reilly.
We’ve also been the subject of an August 2011 HBS case titled Tough Mudder’s Global Expansion.
To read the case study, apply to HBS, or just apply to Tough Mudder!

Tough Mudder Library

To supplement TMU and further encourage individual professional development, Tough Mudder has created an internal library. The Tough Mudder Library is as a platform to encourage independent learning and foster informal learning interactions between Tough Mudder employees. Along with providing a selection of non-fiction Mudder-relevant books, the Tough Mudder Library runs several programs, including the Tough Mudder Reader’s Association, Tough Mudder Bookies, and Tough Mudder Reader of the Year.

TMU Book Club

Every two months, a TMHQ employee is given the opportunity of presenting a leading business book whose principles have directly influenced the company. These book club meetings include all of TMHQ reading the book, meeting in learning groups to discuss key points, and even being quizzed on the reading material. TMHQ employees are then encouraged to find everyday situations in which the principles can be applied.
