Meet Three Inspirational Tough Mudder Fundraisers from Second Chance Rescue NYC

Behind every member of the Tough Mudder Charity Family there are countless stories of selfless fundraising heroes. They take on Tough Mudder not only for themselves, but also to support a range of amazing causes.

This month, we caught up with Second Chance Rescue NYC to hear about some of their inspirational fundraisers for the 2018 Tough Mudder season. Second Chance Rescue NYC work tirelessly to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome critically injured and neglected animals.

Courtney Cox – Tough Mudder Half Twin Cities

For fundraiser Courtney Cox, Tough Mudder is all about finding herself. She’s raising money for Second Chance Rescue NYC along the way, using her lifelong love for animals as a driving force in her training and fundraising.

“I am participating in Tough Mudder because I’ve been working hard on finding the real me! I’m ready to take it to the next level and challenge myself to be better. My love for animals is what inspired me to do this. I’ve been rescuing animals since I was little.

“Good, better, best. I’ll never rest… until my good is better and my better is best!”

Athena & Shande Odell – Tough Mudder Half Hudson Valley

Husband and wife Athena and Shane Odell have recruited their friends Rachel and Christian to join their fundraising team at the Hudson Valley Tough Mudder Half event in August. Athena filled us in on why their Tough Mudder journey means so much to them.

“Growing up, my husband and I both had experience with rescuing and rehabilitating a wide variety of animals. We are avid dog lovers, have three rescued pit bulls of our own, and hope to one day open a rescue center as well.

“I started following Second Chance Rescue NYC on Facebook and Instagram. It’s heartbreaking and then heartwarming to see transformations of absolute horror stories to happy-go-lucky doggies. We feel honored for being able to help this great cause!”

Wendy Johnson – Tough Mudder Atlanta

After earning her first headband, Wendy Johnson discovered the Tough Mudder Charity Family, and realised she could make her next event even more memorable by raising money for a cause.

“I decided to train for my second Tough Mudder after getting out of a very draining relationship. I felt like I lost myself, had stopped working out and couldn’t get myself out of the slump I was in. I have always loved dogs – my dog Murphy is a pit mix rescue. So Second Chance Rescue NYC was a perfect fit for my fundraising.

“A Tough Mudder is not easy, but the feeling of doing what you didn’t think you could do is such a powerful thing! I imagine it’s very similar to how so many of these amazing dogs feel when they get their freedom ride! Part of my goal in helping dogs and doing this event is to also help and inspire people.”
