Meet the Tough Mudder team who are fighting to cure Neurofibromatosis

Every year thousands of amazing Mudders take on the course for a cause they believe in. Their inspiring stories make what we do worth it. Today we’re spotlighting the story of Team Maddox, who have raised over $30,000 at Tough Mudder events.

For eight-year-old Maddox, every day is a fight. He’s battling against a genetic condition called NF1, or Neurofibromatosis. NF causes tumors to grow throughout his body, which affect his airways and his back. A year after his diagnosis, Maddox’s parents discovered that he was virtually blind in his left eye. He also requires occupational and physical therapy, and special assistance in school.

But Maddox doesn’t let NF get in his way. He is determined, happy and talented, and inspires those around him. Mom Nicole and Dad Todd decided to honor Maddox’s unbeatable spirit by starting a fundraising team in his name. Team Maddox is made up of countless friends and family members who all take on challenges to fundraise for the Children’s Tumor Foundation.

The Children’s Tumor Foundation are the leading researchers of NF, and are well on the way to an effective treatment. “I had never even heard of Neurofibromatosis, and here I was faced with the most unimaginable circumstance - my sweet little boy growing tumors throughout his body and brain.” said Nicole. “Finding the Children's Tumor Foundation was life-changing for our family.”

Nicole explained why Tough Mudder was the perfect fit for Team Maddox. “No hill is too high, no obstacle too hard. We push ourselves to the extreme, knowing we are making a difference for Maddox and the millions of others who suffer from NF.”

Since starting their Tough Mudder fundraising two years ago, Team Maddox have raised over $30,000 for the Children’s Tumor Foundation, and they aren’t planning on stopping any time soon. “We now have hope, direction, and a purpose” said Nicole.
