Fact: The Tough Mudder off-season is everyone’s least favorite time of year. Sure, the holidays can be fun, but for the most part it’s flat out boring, and even the most positive person can start to wonder if it will ever end. (Seriously, doesn’t January—especially Dry January—feel like the longest month of the year?)
Don’t worry—you’ll be back in the mud sooner than you think. But if you’re struggling in the meantime, check out this list of tried and true methods to help make the time go by quicker than a Pitfall faceplant.
1. FIND YOUR ‘EYE OF THE TIGER’
You know your inner badass is there, you’ve just gotta let it out. Pro tip: One Rocky training montage a day—plus our new 30-Day workout challenge, T-Minus 30—will have you ready to crush it on event day.
Okay, maybe you can’t just sleep until event day, but you absolutely can use this time to get healthy and make sure you’re 100% rested and ready to rock the course.
3. RE-DISCOVER YOUR ABS
It’s been way too long, and let’s face it: you miss ‘em. So get back in the gym or in a Tough Mudder Bootcamp, get back on that healthy meal plan, and get back together with all six (or even 8) of your abs. P.S.: You’re gonna need killer core strength to conquer Black Widow and Spread Eagle this year. Just sayin’.
4. RECRUIT A KILLER CREW
What’s better than crushing a Tough Mudder? Sharing the muddy mayhem with a badass crew. So take the next few months and assemble the squad of your dreams. Make sure you include Dave (‘cause he always brings the best snacks) and come up with a cool team name.
5. HONE YOUR PARTY SKILLS
Spend some serious time training your taste buds, upping your beer pong game, and your dusting off your dancing skills if you wanna be ready for a Mudder Village Festival that’s gonna be off the charts in 2019.
6. ADOPT YOUR OWN RUFF MUDDER
There’s no better way to keep your spirits up while you’re waiting for the off-season to be over than getting a furry partner in crime to keep you company while you train. But hey, Fido also won’t judge you for chillin’ on the couch and binge-watching The Office for the 15th time.
7. IT’S A WIDE WORLD—GO SEE IT
Climb a mountain, ride a bike, hit the beach or explore your own urban backyard. The off-season is the perfect time to test yourself against mother nature or even just play tourist on foot in your own town.
8. GET AMPED UP
