On December 14, 2012, Jeremy Richman’s daughter, Avielle, a student at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, was murdered alongside 19 classmates and six adult staff members.

In the aftermath of Avielle’s tragic death, Jeremy and his wife, both scientists, started The Avielle Foundation, an organization created to study the neurological issues that lead to violence and encourage people to act compassionately.

At 15, Dan Kosick, the 2014 Upstate New York Inspiring Mudder of the Year, lost his leg to cancer. Growing up, he struggled emotionally as well as physically with his disability. Then slowly, Dan began to change his attitude. Eventually he looked deep within and thought, “What am I hiding?”

Two weeks ago, during the great northeast snowshow, we challenged Mudders to capture their outdoor workout and upload it using #SnowMudder. We promised the winner a flight, hotel stay and entry to Tough Mudder Whistler 2015.
