This past Saturday on Randall’s Island in New York, thousands were crowned with green and grey Urban Mudder finisher headbands, as Tough Mudder’s Cousin in the City celebrated its inaugural event.

The five-mile Urban Mudder course, featuring leaps from rooftops, shimmies through laser fields and riverside runs with views of the famed New York skyline, brought a new breed of festival fitness to the Big Apple.

With Vegas playing host to World’s Toughest Mudder for the first time ever this year, the stage is set for one daring desert dash. But the course temperature isn’t the only thing heating up this year at Lake Las Vegas. WTM 2014 will see the past two women’s champions, Deanna Blegg of Australia, the reigning WTM champion, and Amelia Boone of Chicago, the 2012 WTM champion, compete for a chance to become the first ever two-time female World’s Toughest Mudder.

When he was a child, Rob Leboy remembers walking the neighborhood collecting cans with his grandfather, so they could afford to buy bread. The hardships Rob faced as a child weren’t just financial, however. Because of his low-income status, Rob was bullied at school, and throughout his youth, every day seemed like a struggle.
