Being a Mudder℠ is all about taking on the obstacles in your life and the enormous sense of accomplishment that you feel when you overcome them.

As we grow older, we remind ourselves that “age is only a number” more and more frequently. However, few of us actually put this mantra into action. Joe Perry is one of these few.

A few months ago, we did an inspiring Q&A with Joe Perry, a Hall of Fame Mudder--literally. Last year, Joe was inducted into his town’s Sports Hall of Fame for his Tough Mudder accomplishments. Inspired by his Q&A words of wisdom, we asked Joe to share the tale of his Mudder journey.

After Global Mudder 2014 put Tough Mudder in the international spotlight, we decided to go even bigger in 2015. On the weekend of September 12 and 13, thousands of Mudders across the United States, Germany, the UK and Australia tackled Tough Mudder’s 10- to 12-mile world-class obstacle course and proved, once again, that Mudder Nation is a global force that’s here to stay.

In 2010 at the age of 42, author and motivational speaker, Doug Grady, was in a self-described “mud-life crisis.” He was out of shape, deep in debt, drinking heavily and had an overall cynical attitude toward all things life. “Typically when men have a midlife crisis, they go buy a Porsche and find a 20-year old girlfriend,” Doug laughs. “But those things require money, and I didn’t have that.”

In three seasons as a TMHQ operations manager, planning and building Tough Mudder courses, Hilary May has left literal and figurative footprints on Tough Mudder courses throughout North America. Out of dozens of venues she’s masterminded into meccas of mud-coated madness, Tall Pines ATV Park, home of Tough Mudder Upstate New York, is arguably home to more Mudder memories than any other course.
