Join the 1%: Here’s What It Takes to Be Navy Special Operations

Can You Compete with the Best of the Best?

When most people hear the term “U.S. Navy Special Ops,” they immediately think of SEALs, the elite, stealthy warfighters who endure the hardest training the U.S. military has to offer. Navy SEALs are deserving of their lethal reputation, but the team often overshadows the other exclusive roles that comprise Navy Special Ops: Aviation Rescue Swimmers, Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technicians, Hospital Corpsmen, Divers, and Special Warfare Combat Crewmen. (Learn more at U.S. Navy Special Operations Careers.)

Only 1% of Americans have what it takes to join the Navy Special Operations community. These elite Sailors don’t just serve, they thrive in the most physically and mentally demanding situations imaginable. They clear explosives, navigate high-speed combat boats, conduct deep-sea dives, and execute missions behind enemy lines – all with precision, skill, and focus.

It’s Not a Drill. It’s the First Cut

All Navy Special Ops roles have one thing in common – each requires superior physical and mental toughness. The Physical Screening Test (PST) is the first real challenge for those who think they have what it takes to join the world’s most elite warfighters. The PST includes a series of strength, swimming, and stamina tests, and it’s the first bar that every candidate for Navy Special Ops must pass to be considered for a position. A passing score on the PST doesn’t just say you’re ready – it says you’re elite.

Think You Have What It Takes?

The best don’t just meet the PST standard – they destroy it. Top performers typically score 50% above minimum standards. Want to see how you stack up against others who have taken the PST? Visit Special Operations PST, where you can review the minimum PST requirements for each Navy Special Ops role, and then compete in the following challenges to see how you rate:

  • Push Ups: Hit your max in 2 minutes. Measure upper body strength and endurance.
  • Sit Ups: Take 2 minutes to measure strength, technique and endurance.
  • Pull Ups: Test upper-body strength, grip, and functional power. No time limit.
  • Running: Go all out with a 1.5-mile run to evaluate cardio fitness and mental toughness.
  • Swimming: Get through 500 yards to prove your confidence, technique and endurance.

Once you’ve completed the five challenges, revisit Special Operations PST to compare your times and scores against the top performers from throughout the country, who have taken the Navy’s Physical Screening Test.

Find a PST Event Near You

PST events happen nationwide and are open to anyone ready to rise to the challenge. These timed events test more than physical ability – they measure drive, discipline, and readiness. Visit Special Operations PST to find a Navy PST event near you and see how you stack up.
