Meet Promise686: a fearless organization that’s on a mission to help orphans and foster children. Through fundraising and community support, Promise686 equips families and organizations with the resources to improve the adoption process. Like a Tough Mudder, the journey to serve foster children is full of obstacles. This year, they rallied a Corporate Team of 95 Mudders and raised $150,000.
Read on to find out how they made it happen.
Why Tough Mudder?
Foster families and foster children are tough. It takes a team of volunteers alongside them to make it through the foster system. We wanted to honor the commitment of these families, shed light on the difficulties the children face and highlight the difference that volunteers can make. We wanted our effort in the Mudder to highlight the challenging commitment foster families make.
How did you fundraise?
Team members spread news of the opportunity through emails, social media and most importantly, word of mouth. The bulk of the gifts came through a conversation with an email as follow-up.
What was event day like for your Corporate Team?
It was a fantastic day. This year’s course included 11.4 miles and 20 obstacles – some more punishing than others. Our team grew from 16 runners in 2014, to 57 runners in 2015, to 100 runners in 2016!
How do you plan to use the proceeds?
The proceeds will be used specifically for foster care related work. We want to flood the foster care system with amazing families. The funds support recruitment activities and materials, training of leaders to develop strong sustainable foster care programs, the implementation of a volunteer model which has already trained over 1000 volunteers, and partnership development with state and private child placement agencies– creating a stronger and more efficient foster care system.
