The “fun friends” are our favorite people. These go-getters are the ones in the group who are always the first to initiate out-of-the-box conversations, bring up a new crazy idea for a fun weekend, take the lead on planning and generally motivate everyone to get together. If you want to be the fun friend this year, the next time your group of pals is looking for an activity, sign the whole squad up for a Tough Mudder.
Days seem like weeks for the fun friend if they don’t have something dangerous, adventurous or strenuous on the calendar, which is especially stressful when they feel life soaring by in the blink of an eye. The truth is, they are right: time flies. We need to make the most of every opportunity, and committing to the good times will never be something you’ll regret.
If you’re the fun friend of your group, we salute you. And if you’re not (but you yearn to be), we’ve compiled a list of fun-friend qualities that you should strive to embody if you want to earn the title. When the day is said and done, we all want to have a beer with the fun friend – even if we complained throughout their entire “fun” outing because our shoes were wet, our legs were tired or… whatever. Instead of catering to our fears and comfort zones, let’s cheers to saying “YES” and “F*CK YEAH” more often in 2025, and becoming the friend everyone secretly wants to have.
What makes a Fun Friend?
They’re ahead of the curve…
“Oh, you haven’t heard of this new adventure that everyone is talking about, yet?!” might just be in their vocabulary. While this statement might feel pretentious coming from others, it’s anything but that coming from the fun friend. Instead, they’ll sign you both up as a way to make you closer along the journey.
… and a tiny bit reckless,
What’s adventure without a little risk/reward ratio? They’re rough around the edges, but rough and tough is how the fun friend likes a plan to come together.
but they bring enough vibes for the whole group.
The fun friend packs beers – or everyone’s favorite snack and electrolytes – for the top of the mountain, makes a reservation that can fit the whole group and has a curated playlist prepped and on-point for the road-trip. (They might even turn it up loud to drown out the pre-high complaints!) It’s the little things that the fun friend adds to the experience that make the adventure a memorable one and a little bit different from the last.
They are a team player…
No one is left behind, and they celebrate everyone who’s brave enough to try something new. When an idea comes to fruition, it wouldn’t be the same without the whole squad.
… and know when to commit.
Book early and let the fun planning begin. It might be tough at first, but this friend will convince you to block off your calendar to make sure you get a solid meet up date. They make sure you don’t get left in the dust when tickets sell out.
If this sounds like you or you’re feeling inspired to become the fun friend in your group this year, it’s probably time to adventure on with us. Not ready to take the deep dive yet? We get it.
