In 2017 we’re making our way to The Big Easy where the party is popping and the mud is mighty fine. Located just 20 minutes outside the French Quarter, Tough Mudder New Orleans is the swampy challenge you’ve been searching for. Turn your run in the mud into a long weekend getaway and soak up all of the culture this energetic city has to offer.
Here’s your go-to list of things not to be missed when you’re in town: after running through 5-10 miles of mud and obstacles you’re going to need a pick-me-up. Shower off and swing by Cafe Du Monde for a strong cafe au lait and refuel with a giant bag of fresh beignets. Never heard of a beignet? It’s just the most delicious fried piece of dough dusted in sweet powdered sugar that you’ll ever sink your teeth into. If you’re looking for a lesser known spot to get your caffeine fix that also serves up a mean avocado toast, check out the Church Alley Coffee Bar.
Take a stroll through the famed French Quarter where the smell of fresh creole cooking wafts through the streets and sound of smooth jazz pours from open front bars and restaurants. We wouldn’t leave the city without broiled oysters at Acme Oyster House, a classic po-boy sandwich from Killer Poboys, and a traditional Pimms cup cocktail from Napoleon House. Having a frozen daiquiri from one of the slew of places on Bourbon Street goes without saying.
If one day on site at a Tough Mudder event wasn’t enough adventure for you then head to the historic and picturesque Oak Alley Plantation or get in a quick workout on on a kayak swamp tour (yes, those exist).
