WINTER STORM JONAS = #SNOWMUDDER CHALLENGE 2016

As we prep for the wrath of Winter Storm Jonas in the NorthEast only one thought comes to mind: Are you ready for #SNOWMUDDER 2.0? Capture a workout in the snow, a good outdoor beer chug, or a snowball to the face (of a willing Mudder) then upload your photo or video to Facebook, Twitter or Instagram with #SnowMudder. Living in warmer temps? That just means it’s time to get creative…perhaps an Arctic Enema bath? Or freezer squats at work? We’ll round up our favorite submissions next week for your viewing pleasure and announce the winner of a mystery Tough Mudder swag bag.

We caught up with #SnowMudder 2015 winner, Domenick “Wolverine” Deutsch for some quick tips to building the most hardcore backyard course ever created. Check out his winning submission below.

Stats:
Name: Domenick Wolverine Deutsch
Age: 23
Location: The Steel City, Pittsburgh, PA
Legionnaire Status: 28x Tough Mudder, 3x WTM Participant, 500+ miles ran in Tough Mudders
Instagram: @deutschy1
How long did it take you to build your course?

The course took about 2 hours to fully set up, but my funky monkey and mini walls are always set up. The hardest part was shoveling the snow off my roof without slipping.

What was the inspiration?

I wanted to come up with the most epic video to submit. Shocking yourself isn’t something everyone does. I enjoy it in a crazy and good way. As a WTM participant we are already classified as crazy and I believe representing the community with an epic video of similar things was a great way to approach this one.

On a scale of 1-10, how freakin’ cold were you?

I was FREEZING! Definitely well above 10. I had the hot shower running during the entire filming process. We shot it in one take. Just like a Tough Mudder, you normally only have one attempt at an obstacle and proper execution was what myself and father were aiming for.

Just wondering, how did you get the nickname Wolverine?

From my unique facial hair that I rock during race season. It’s call the friendly mutton chops and I will proudly state that not everyone can rock it. I’ve met so many people, THMQ, Production, and sponsors with them calling out “WOLVERINE” on the course. It’s something that stuck and I dig it. During the off season I go into hibernation and grow a full beard.

What are your top 3 tips for building an epic #SnowMudder course?

1. Snow is a must and and minimal clothing. Covering the body in warmth isn’t part of the deal. You’ve gotta brace the cold like Arctic Enema.

2. Think outside of the box. Think of something that people will want to watch over and over again, with laughter, and the question, “Did that really just happen?”

3. Headband and Beer. Two must haves in every video. Once you run a Tough Mudder and life revolves around it, it becomes a lifestyle and a way of living.
