Tough Mudder Around the World: Rule the Mud. Rule the World.

Participants cheering at the finish line

Almost everyone probably knows someone who’s done a Tough Mudder, but if you haven’t done one yourself, you at least probably know Tough Mudder as the mud-soaked, teamwork-fueled obstacle challenge that’s taken over fields and trails across the U.S. and UK. But here’s a not-so-dirty secret: Tough Mudder is a global muddy movement. That’s right: Our legendary start-line hype, full-course camaraderie and epic finish-line feels are happening all around the world every month, and we’re here to take you on a world tour of the wildest, muddiest, most unforgettable Tough Mudder events on the planet.

From the rugged mountains of Europe and Canada to the glaring desert of New Cairo, Egypt and even the golden coasts of Australia, we’ll spotlight what makes each destination unique, why it’s totally worth the trip, and which events you absolutely need to add to your bucket list. Let’s go global, Mudders.

Different Regions Around the Globe to Try a Tough Mudder

The United States

From coast to coast, the U.S. might just be the beating heart of the Tough Mudder universe. Each course features incredibly diverse terrain and topography, so not only is there an event for everyone in your squad, but you’ll leave your first Mudder event dying to try them all. Whether you’re crawling through the cactus-laden desert mud of Austin, powering up the rugged peaks of Big Bear, or charging through Michigan’s woodsy wilderness, every course packs its own punch of grit and glory. From our beginner-friendly 5K, to the elusive 10K, the leg-burning 15K – plus Tough Mudder Infinity (as many laps as you can in 8 hours) and Toughest Mudder (a 12-hour overnight challenge) for those who just don’t know when to quit – each spot on the map turns up the mud factor in its own way.

No matter where you show up across the U.S., the obstacles are world-class, the Mudder community is absolutely unmatched, and we guarantee that post-race beer will taste just like victory (maybe even better…). Will we see you out there?

The United Kingdom

Just a quick skip across the pond, you’ll find the UK dishing out classic Tough Mudder chaos with a side of rolling countryside views. Whether you’re trudging through Yorkshire’s extremely muddy and demanding bogs, taking in once-in-a-lifetime shoreline views in Scotland, or wading waist-deep in the legendary muck of London South (seriously; it’s so muddy that sometimes the obstacles build themselves naturally), every event demands a healthy dose of teamwork and grit – and, often, serves up some classic dark clouds and a lot of mud.

Test yourself with a 5K, a 15K, or Tough Mudder Infinity, and don’t forget to sign your little ones up and bring ‘em along. And if there’s one crown jewel you can’t miss this year, it’s Belvoir Castle – 2025’s home of World’s Toughest Mudder. Think you have what it takes to conquer 24 hours of relentless obstacles, pitch-black trails to the backdrop of hauntingly stunning castles, and next-level toughness on a course that chews up and spits out even the boldest Mudders on Earth? (They just keep coming back though, and we bet you will, too.)

Canada

Just two hours from downtown Toronto, Tough Mudder Canada is back this September and tearing up the trails at Gopher Dunes, one of the country’s premier off-road motocross parks and the ultimate muddy playground. The sandy dirt bike track delivers the perfect mix of undulating and rugged trails, winding forest paths, and wide-open fields, all on mostly flat, beginner-friendly terrain that still packs a hearty punch.

Whether you’re taking on the 5K or going all-in with the 15K, this is your chance to go full throttle and prove that you and your Mudder squad are Toronto tough. And when the dust (and mud) settles and the work is done? You’ll be in a gorgeous part of Canada just as summer’s giving way to fall. It’s the perfect time to unplug and unwind in one of Gopher Dunes’ off-grid cabins – rustic, cozy, and perfect for celebrating your victory with all of your new-found friends. Tough Mudder Toronto was built for those who were born to get dirty. Rev up, get ready, and we’ll see you on the course.

Germany

Welcome to Tough Mudder Berlin-Brandenburg, the only other European stop on the Mudder map, and trust us: It’s worth the passport stamp. Set on the jaw-dropping 800-hectare Asparagus Adventure Farm, this venue is like no other: winding woodland trails, sandy flats, and beginner-friendly terrain make it the perfect blend of scenic and savage. Whether you’re going for the 5K or the 15K, this course will push your limits without breaking your spirit, and with its close proximity to both Berlin and Potsdam (each under an hour’s drive), it’s the ultimate weekend escape. Camp under the stars, refuel at the on-site, farm-to-table restaurant, and – if you’re feeling up to it – this event is a double-header weekend with Spartan, so you’ve got twice the challenge and double the bragging rights practically in your pocket. What are you waiting for?

Australia

Set at the stunning Rydges Resort Hunter Valley, this course in Lovedale, NSW, where rolling wine country will become an obstacle-laden mud bath, is yours for the taking no matter what level you’re at, with a 5K, a 15K, and – for the first time ever Down Under – Infinity, our ultimate, 8-hour, multi-loop test of endurance. The terrain? Mostly flat with some gentle, scenic undulation, perfect for first-timers and seasoned Mudders alike. But don’t let these postcard-caliber views fool you: There’s plenty of mud to go around, especially with all-time classic obstacles like Mud Mile ready to face you down.

Once you claim your victory, rinse off and take a deep dive into only the best of Hunter Valley living: world-class wineries right at your feet, local cheeses you just have to taste to understand, cold craft beers (c’mon, you’ve earned ‘em), and even a cheeky round of golf or a scenic horseback ride to finish soak up all those hard-earned endorphins. If you’re ready to work hard and play even harder, this is one indulgent weekend you just can’t miss.

Egypt

Just one hour from the Great Pyramids of Giza and a 15-minute zip to Downtown Katameya & East Cairo stands the self-contained CityGate, riddled with gorgeous villas, greenery and an expansive golf course with unbeatable sights – but don’t let the luscious grass fool you. This fast and furious 5K is packed with 17 signature teambuilding obstacles traversing the raw edge of the desert with rolling inclines, rugged trails, and wide-open views that’ll have your calves burning and your adrenaline pumping.

We know you’ll be sundrenched and ready to kick back and celebrate your victory at the finish line, so we’re custom-building a recovery zone called Tribal Land where racers and spectators can meet up for post-race debriefs, ice baths, yoga, glam stations, and some epic celebratory vibes. Tough Mudder Egypt is so much more than just a 5K: It’s a full-on festival of desert toughness.

China

Nestled in the lush hills and bamboo forests of Sanqingyuan Park in Hangzhou, China, Tough Mudder China is turning up the mud and turning out the next generation of gritty little legends this year. Bring your 4-6-year-olds out to tackle our 4K, 14-obstacle course, and ages 7 to 14 can level up to the 4.8K course with 19 signature, epic obstacles. This unforgettable adventure serves up mud-packed trails, big hill climbs, castle views, and plenty of wide-eyed wonder.

Set in the idyllic “Birthplace of Sanqing Tea,” the venue is surrounded by terraced fields and outdoor sports parks, making it a natural playground for kids to challenge themselves, build confidence and lifelong connections, and get a little dirty doing it. There’s even a paragliding base nearby if you’re looking to add some extra thrill to your family weekend. While registration isn’t available to international Mudders, this weekend is a powerful reminder of just how far the Tough Mudder community extends, and offers an unmatched opportunity for these little Mudders to learn life-long skills in teamwork, resilience, and grit – one muddy obstacle at a time.

Charity Borne: My Toughest Mudder Journey

Where It All Began

I first heard about Toughest Mudder during my very first Tough Mudder event. I was running at a steady pace when I met Joe King. We ended up tackling most of the course together, and as we conquered obstacle after obstacle, he told me about the longer endurance events. That’s when the idea was planted.

Fast forward a bit, and I had the chance to crew for Johnny Mares at World’s Toughest Mudder 2023. Watching him push through hours of pain, cold, and exhaustion with resilience and grit was incredibly inspiring. I remember thinking: What would happen if I tried to go even half as long?

At that point, I had completed two Tough Mudder 15Ks. My first was with Joe, but during the second, I ran solo — out front, taking on most of the obstacles alone, and ended up finishing first. To top it off, my sponsor, Myles Teteak (founder of Life Leaf Remedies), surprised me at the finish line. That moment stayed with me.

Training for Toughest

I didn’t overhaul my training for Toughest Mudder, but I made a few smart tweaks. I swapped out road runs for trail runs and started running at night — no music, just the sound of my own breath and footsteps. It helped sharpen my focus and mental toughness. I stuck to my Hybrid Engine training approach, which I’ve used for hybrid races like Hyrox and DEKA. It gave me the balance I needed.

My goals were clear: keep a steady, conversational pace, aim for 50 miles, and — most importantly — survive Cage Crawl (my ultimate nemesis). But I was also managing nerves. This would be my first ultra since breaking my foot, and 50 miles felt like a long shot. So I grounded myself with this mindset: Just do your best.

Heading into race day, I expected a packed crowd and buzzing energy. While the turnout wasn’t massive, the vibe was still electric. Every time I passed someone or they passed me, we shared encouraging words — small gestures that made a big difference. And despite prepping for a cold night, the weather turned out to be just right.

Race Day Moments

The most exhilarating moment came during my final loop. Around mile four, I realized I didn’t have as much time left as I thought. I picked up the pace, hitting obstacle after obstacle with urgency. A volunteer in a Gator followed behind me, clearing the path with a walkie-talkie. It felt surreal — like something out of a movie.

As for the toughest parts? Three obstacles pushed me to my limits:

  • Cage Crawl: I’ve never liked confined spaces, especially underwater ones. But advice from Johnny Mares helped me stay calm. I took deep breaths, moved slowly, and focused on the end.
  • Berlin Wall: Slippery, tall, and impossible to grip — I could barely reach the top with my fingertips. I relied on the kindness of strangers for a boost each time, and luckily, someone was always there.
  • Block Ness Monster: Doing it alone was brutal. I had to figure out how to tilt the block just enough to swing myself over. It took effort, strategy, and sheer determination — but I got through it.

The Unexpected

A few surprises stood out to me:

  • The volunteers — absolutely amazing. Their kindness and encouragement were a huge boost.
  • The lake — I did not expect to be swimming during the race, but hey… that’s Tough Mudder!
  • Teamwork moments — especially at Block Ness Monster, where a stranger waited and helped me through the entire obstacle. That simple act meant the world.

Toughest Mudder taught me this: Expect the unexpected and lead with kindness. Those two things will carry you through any race — and life.

To any women out there thinking about trying Tough Mudder or OCR: Go for it. Start with a regular Tough Mudder, get the feel for the obstacles, and then challenge yourself with a Toughest. Train without earbuds to build mental resilience. Practice eating and drinking what you’ll use on race day. And yes — do your hair in cute braids. When you feel good, you race better!

I don’t think women have a distinct advantage over men in OCR, but I do believe each of us brings something unique to the course. My training tips? Build your grip strength. Hit the trails — both in daylight and at night. And most importantly: run even when you don’t feel like it. That’s when the real growth happens.

To the women of OCR:

You are capable of more than you think. Strive to do your best — and then go a little further. The OCR community is already incredibly supportive, but I’d love to see more female athletes featured and celebrated. Here’s to more women breaking records, crushing goals, and rising through the ranks — especially the next generation of female racers.
