W.T.M Vegas Training!💪 Worlds Toughest Mudder is only months away! Very excited to endure so much pain in one day hah. This obstacle course is 24 hours long. And to even place at this competition you have to achieve more than 50 miles of running and obstacles designed by British Special Forces. My team mate and brother jimmy_jo_jack have completed two tough mudders together so I know we're gonna knock this one out with hard work oh and possibly instapic81 and johnnyv82 are gonna get recruited too. They just don't know it yet! And best know my strength wraps will be on to support my wrist on every obstacle! strengthwraps follow them and check STRENGTHWRAPS.COM you can see me rocking there wraps in every video for one reason they are Amazin! #toughmudder #wtm #worldstoughestmudder #training #strengthwraps

Have you ever had a day you felt you looked your worst, yet you had someone come up and compliment you? Found yourself surrounded by people who you 100% feel you relate to? Have you walked into a room filled with hundreds of people you dont know, but can strike up a conversation with any of them as if you've been friends for years? Have you been about to challenge yourself and do something crazy, and have thousands of people surrounding you telling you, you can do this, not asking you 'why would you do that?'. That's what Worlds Toughest Mudder feels like. I saw a post by someone saying if you go to WTM and cant run the full 24 hours you shouldn't be there, needless to say this individual has never actually ran a WTM, because if he had he'd see and know, the all inclusive community of WTM. You have the elites, you have those sitting at obstacles all night to help others, and you have people pushing as hard as they can and that may only be for 16 hours. Or 8. Or 21. Worlds Toughest Mudder will take place in Dallas in 2020, and I think you should come. Plus it's not a spartan, so don't think your penalties will be burpees, I promise if you run OCR you can do their 'must complete' obstacles (this year Everest penalty was the Mini Mudder course, headband included). So many people simply stay comfortable and don't find their boundaries. Dont be one of those people. Leave the house before you find a reason to stay in. Register for WTM before you convince yourself of a reason not too. And don't forget your wetsuit. .
.
As for my 2019 WTM, I still got a 40 mile training run in with a new great friend, got to ride in one those medical gators and get awkwardly naked in the med tent. #winning? Still a good enough time to return for round 3 in 2020. Who's coming with?

World's Toughest Mudder 2022 Champion 🏆 105 miles 24:27:19
•
My body aches, my flesh is mangled, but my spirits are high. I knew one thing going into this race; for better or worse, I put the most thought into it out of anybody competing that day. I obsessed about it like nothing else before. After all the preparation, I told the people closest to me that I could win, that I WAS going to win. I signed up for 2022 just a few short days after my first attempt in 2021. As soon as I decided to register, I was all in. I began making my plans to move out of NY and chase the dream full time in Durango, CO at The UltraHouse. Thank you for the opportunity anthonykunkel.
•
This race seemed so much tougher than last year. The obstacles appeared more difficult, the temperatures were in the low 30s for most of the time, and you never got dry. NEVER. It rained at the start and as soon as it stopped, the water obstacles opened up and kept you eternally soaked to the bone. Slowing down and getting cold would become the end of your race very quickly. I told myself, "don't forget you have a lifetime of those CNY winters under your belt. And you trained for the cold all year. You're ready for anything the weather throws at you." I still have a numbness in the tips of my pinky fingers, but it seems to be fading slowly.
•
I also had the best team. My people back in NY. The best training partners all year (tagged) and everyone else who came to visit us at The UltraHouse. They truly helped push my running to another level this year. The best pit crew around in escobar_ocr and arrranxa. Javi has some of the most experience at WTM and helped bring all of this together on game day. Aran was there every time I came through to get me back out on course as quickly as possible. No mistakes in the pit with these 2 working together.
•
Speaking again of Aranxa... doing this whole thing with me over the past 5 years. Agreeing to run around this country with me as I chase this pipe dream when I wasn't even a runner when we met. Well guess what, WE DID IT! Chase your dreams people. The alternative is never knowing..

Cold is probably my worst race condition, so being cold and wet all day for pit set up is not the most confidence inflating thing. 😂 Here's to hoping we all make it 24 hours (further) injury free, help people find their best, and set personal bests. No cliche plug about this being hard blah blah blah, its worlds toughest mudder. It's going to be hard. That's the whole point. Kick some ass, make some noise and I'll see ya'll on the flip side. ❤💪

#worldstoughestmudder is in the books… my second one, and there’s a rumor that the one in the UK in 2025 will be the last. I hope that’s not true, but all things come to an end at some point. When I did my first toughmudder in 2011 I would have never even dreamed of being able to do a 24 hour event. If this is in fact my last WTM one way or another, it’s been one hell of a ride and I’m grateful for the people I’ve met along the way. Going into this race my main goal was the 50 miler bib, which I fell short on last year. Goal #2 was to make this my 3rd 100K of the year, which I also did. I was hoping for a final lap to get 70 in, and set a time target to finish my 13th lap to give me 2 hours to get the last one, but I fell 5 minutes short coming in, noticed everyone else in my pit area had called it, and decided I was done. Had I been smarter about accepting help during pit stops I could have banked up a lot more time, but it was what it was. Took a solid fall off Everest and another on Mudderhorn, but nothing more than bruises and scrapes. This was an amazing time and I’m so happy to have been out there on the course with old friends and meet some new ones.

I’ve always preferred the purity of heat. Even putting a number to it, say an 8 out of 10 for discomfort due to a slight shiver, lightly disorganized thought processes, and cold skin just cuts deeper than a 9 out of 10 due to sweating so hard my entire body is slippery and my consciousness is threatening to evaporate out of the back of my head.. perhaps it’s trauma from winters in Chicago? Or escaping high altitudes in afternoon storms? My brain jumps to a projection about how much worse it’ll be when I get any colder…
But these days, mindfully peeling back mental layers while being more cold acclimated than ever, I’m accepting that I need to update my prediction formulas.
The Dallas Tough Mudder Infinity tested a lot of what I’ve worked on, as well as things I figured training would’ve addressed. I was able to temper my new physical skills in a fire hotter than I anticipate Worlds to be.
I was the guinea pig out there since I was out front and the course got nearly annihilated by a storm the entire weekend:
-waterboarded into a panic by my first pass through #cagecrawl (I’m assuming the hashtag will have a pic, if not Google; the middle three fences were bowed into the water), hacked up dyed red water the rest of the day..
-hit Everest, Block Ness Monster, Mudderhorn, Mud Mile, and loads of walls, all solo and in inches of rain.. that first lap solo was a trial and I was grateful for the training I’ve put in to handle these camaraderie focused obstacles without help, through contortions, creativity, and some sneaky grip work (looking at you Block Ness)..
-failed a bit and spent a Lot of time at obstacles, unlike Seattle; I got into my head and told myself I NEED to complete each thing, expending a Ton of mental energy.. Still some obstacles proved too much for me, like Well Swung that got caked in slimy mud and I failed the last two despite making the jump and securing my hands, plunk -into the water backwards, head first… Spent the time considering the lanes on these fail-able obstacles, did the penalties, then took another crack at um.
Training event stuff, and still 6:12:XX for 60K. 4 cold, muddy laps of the classic 15K Mudder 📿…

Training event stuff, and still 6:12:XX for 60K. 4 cold, muddy laps of the classic 15K Mudder 📿…

"If taking oneself seriously as a woman means committing to a life of grooming, pumicing, pruning and polishing one's exteriors for the benefit of onlookers then I may as well leave my unwieldy rucksack to the top of a bleak Scottish hill and make my home there under a stone, where I'll fashion shoes out of mud and clothes out of leaves". ~Miranda Heart. -------------------------------- Oh man, I am obsessed with this quote. Don't get me wrong I do love to dress nice and look pretty but my spirit is most at home covered in sweat and dirt on a mountain top. #flashbackfriday to possibly my all time favorite racing shot. This is from #toughmudder Kentucky 2012. TM doesn't keep time but I ended up first place overall female and raced alongside my studley husband and brother-in-law. It was freezing and there was so much icy water and mud but we had the time of our lives, fluid team work, laughed a ton and moved quickly through obstacles together. We were a bit slap-happy as we had driven to Kentucky through the night and got about 2 hours of sleep in our car before the race . We were training for #worldstoughestmudder and wanted to practice racing while sleep deprived 😂😬. To top it off, once we completed the 13 mile course, we crossed the finish line and did 200 Burpees 😳. I would like to get my strength back to that place in 2017. Today I am headed to Cross Country Junior Olympics Regionals in Illinois with my team. I'm lucky enough to coach a great group of kids who are really hoping to qualify for Nationals. Send these hard-working kids fast racing vibes if you can please! Happy weekend! #ilovetorun #muddy #ocr #crosscountry

Its been roughly 730 days, 3300 miles ran between today and the last time I toed the start line of Worlds Toughest Mudder. There's been so much covered in those 2 years that it feels like a lifetime. This race has always scared the crap out of me, those minutes when you're in the starting coral and you're facing this epic race of pretty monumental proportions. Knowing you're going to be cold, hot, electrocuted, world reduced to a headlamp, beat up, mentally wore down, and for an entire day. It's always made me feel so small in that moment. This year, I don't quite feel that. Dont get me wrong, I'm wicked anxious for what can go wrong, but I'm focused on what will go right. I'm actually fairly confident in my abilities. For like the first time in my life, I'm confident I can do the mileage I have in my head & I'm looking forward to it. These races have a way of reminding you through every scrape, bruise and mile that you are alive. After all the crap of the last 2 years, we all need to be reminded just how that feels.

If you could send positive vibes to every single one of the competitors about to head out on course tomorrow for the next 25.5 hours, I would love it.  To everyone out here about to give it your best, just hold on. When the event is over you either hurt because you gave it your all, or hurt because you quit, and the hurt from quitting will never disappear.

As someone who lives in a notoriously flat prairie state, don't bet on me 😂, but I'll give it my best shot. Working on living a life I won't regret.🤘

Leading the way early on at World’s Toughest Mudder in Las Vegas, November 2017. You do as many 5-mile obstacle laps as you can in 24 hours. I covered about 38 miles. Grueling, but it’s a great workout. I’m honored to have represented teamrubicon for the event, and grateful to our pit crew that kept us all fed, warm, and sane. tough_mudder toughmudderceo #toughmudder #worldstoughestmudder #lasvegas #desert #enduranceracing #veteran #charity #disasterresponse #running #determined

Soooo much to say about this weekend’s event. So many lessons learnt. So many regrets and victories over 24 hours of racing.

For now I’m headed home where I’ll recover from almost no sleep at all over 4 days.

A year’s worth of preparation, nerves and training are over and it’s time to take stock and get ready for another season of racing.

Before I heal up and get some much needed shuteye, I’ve already circled my calendar for next November when the #WorldsToughestMudder family will reconvene for another #sufferfest in Florida.

It’s been four years since I ran my last World’s Toughest Mudder, and I haven’t stepped foot on a Tough Mudder course to compete since. Hell, it’s been well over a year since I’ve touched an obstacle race in general.
.
I acknowledge the part of me that whispers “You know, that was a good chapter in your life. Maybe you should just leave it as it was and not try and recreate the magic.” I acknowledge that there’s some ego involved in that. And I know that, in the past, ego has kept me away.
.
But louder than that voice of ego is the voice that tells me that World’s Toughest Mudder is home for me: it’s how this crazy athletic journey of mine started. And in this whirlwind last year of mine, more than anything, I’ve recognized the importance of home. Of connecting with my roots. And of the people who mean so much to me.
.
So I’m SO excited to return home this weekend for 24 hours of mud, freezing cold, super flattering pictures, and all the weird sht that happens along the way. Let’s go play. tough_mudder #worldstoughestmudder #wtm2019

The priceless look
Finish line photo of WTM 2022
95 miles and a hair over 24 hrs in

This event is what I call a “gamble” every year. Anything can happen to the body and mind at any moment. The key to success is how well you can control the unknowns and push the boundaries.

It was cold this year, and the way Tough Mudder set up the rolling open obstacles this year was definitely a shock to the body by the time they all opened after I was 50 miles into the race. I pushed and tried to stay as consistent as possible. I know the game, I’ve been running this race many years now and have learned what the body and mind need to continue pushing through the pains and shivers. It got very cold, and it definitely changed the dynamics of the way my body was able to move to and try to keep up with what I mentally wanted. I went through some dark moments but in those dark moments, I knew what my purpose was out there and what I was there for and who I am as a person. “I will go the full 24 hours and if I end up with 95 or 100 miles, I’m extremely happy with my performance and leaving my soul behind on course.” Many folks weren’t able to keep up with the process and bowed out early. Training, knowing your body, the environment, and what your success looks like at the end, gets you to the finish.

I’m proud of my fellow competitors and what they each completed. Thank you TMHQ for the amazing event, as always.
Thank you Coach, Clinton, Sean, and Jason for being up with us all night either DJing or being there at the finish/start line lap after lap. Thank you elliot.rueb and kelsee_montagna for all of the help and support. Couldn’t do this without a solid crew to keep me on track.

Thank you natashavdm81 for your coaching wisdom and expertise throughout the year (we still have work to do for 160 mile snow sled pull in December 🤫)

During my first 24hr race I had strategized running together with markgaudet85 in order to distract myself from the miles that lay ahead and take the pressure off. But as time went on I became more accustomed to it and wasn't necessarily running my own race anymore. Eventually I called it quits before turning it into an actual race. Overall I think this was a good race strategy however it would have been better to have split off earlier and do my own thing.

So instead tomorrow I'll be running my own race with a personal goal of hitting 100 (or more) miles. Not sure what the competition will look like but I'm not worried about it. Just gonna do me and run the race to the best of my ability!
